RDO Caters Taters Partners With Single-Mom Empowerment Program To Break The Poverty Cycle

This year RDO Caters Taters is giving back to those who have some of the best-baked potato recipes in the land – Moms, focusing on single moms supported by Jeremiah Program Fargo-Moorhead, a nonprofit that aims to disrupt the poverty cycle for mothers and their children, two generations at a time.

Jeremiah Program Fargo-Moorhead will receive 100% of every dollar raised and use the funds to continue supporting moms and children in our community.

While the potato is the event’s star, the driving force behind RDO Caters Taters is the benefiting charity (sorry, Tommy Tater).

“Since 2014 when JP Fargo-Moorhead started, we have significantly increased the numbers of enrolled moms and children and built more collaborations to continue growing our reach,” says Laetitia Mizero Hellerud, Jeremiah Program’s executive director. “We are now not only supporting on-campus moms but also those living off campus.”
Since the COVID-19 pandemic, single moms have struggled with the increased cost of living, childcare, and mental health.

“Historically, women and especially those from minoritized groups (Blacks, Indigenous, People of Color, LGBTQIA+, people living with disabilities, etc.) have been impacted by poverty at a much higher rate,” she says. “Holistic support like what Jeremiah Program is providing is more needed in times like this.”

So, in 2021, the Jeremiah Program rose to meet the 71% increase in demand by facilitating nearly 1,500 family coaching sessions, which equals more than 800 hours of future-focused support and planning. They distributed 47 laptops and tablets and changed 38 children’s lives through high-quality early education from their on-site early childhood education center.

“RDO Caters Taters is a uniquely creative event that unites the community behind one cause,” Laetitia Mizero Hellerud says. “JP will benefit from this opportunity beyond the money raised.”

Since it began, RDO Caters Taters for Charity has raised nearly $900,000 for local charities, including Great Plains Food Bank, PATH ND, and, most recently, BIO Girls.

Join us for RDO Caters Taters for Charity, Wednesday, November 2 from 11 a.m. – 1 p.m. at the Delta Hotels by Marriott Fargo. 100% of proceeds benefit Jeremiah Program Fargo-Moorhead.
