One Potato at a Time: RDO Caters Taters Helps Children Find Healing

RDO Caters Taters for Charity returned for its 26th year with a powerful purpose: supporting children on their journey to healing. This year’s event raised $87,280 for the Red River Children’s Advocacy Center (RRCAC), helping expand trauma-informed care across North Dakota, Minnesota, and South Dakota.

Held annually by R.D. Offutt Company, the one-day baked potato luncheon brings together hundreds of community members, sponsors and volunteers, and 100% of proceeds go directly to the nonprofit beneficiary.

“Funds raised at RDO Caters Taters will support RRCAC’s continued growth and development,” said Sarah Matthews, Executive Director of RRCAC. “We’ll be able to expand our in-house mental health services by adding two new clinicians. This means more availability and less outsourcing — ultimately, more healing for children.”

A Safe Space for Every Child

RRCAC provides a safe, child-focused environment where young survivors of abuse, neglect and exploitation can be heard, believed and supported. The center coordinates care across law enforcement, child protection, prosecution, mental health and medical services, ensuring children receive the compassionate, timely support they need.

In 2025 alone, RRCAC facilitated over 380 forensic interviews, a 30% increase from the previous year. The center serves 60 counties and four Native American reservations, underscoring the urgent need for expanded services.

“We’re committed to building trust within our communities and among our partners,” Matthews said. “Every child deserves a safe space to begin their journey toward healing.”
