The Benefits of Giving Back with RDO Caters Taters Sponsor, Brenco

Did you know giving back may decrease depression? Studies have shown that both volunteering and generosity have been linked to lower rates of depression and depressive symptoms. This is just one of the many benefits of giving back that are significant enough that several companies eagerly support RDO Caters Taters every year. For one sponsor this year, it was enough for them to seek out opportunities to become more involved with the event. While 2021 may be this company’s 2021 first year as a sponsor, its relationship with the event – and RDO Equipment Co. – goes back much further. Brenco When Brenco Cleaning Equipment and Janitorial Supplies was founded in 1982, owner, Loren Thoennes was working in the agriculture industry. Not just “in the industry,” and close to the RDO business, he spent several years on the RDO team, as the service manager at the original RDO Equipment Co. store in Casselton. Current Brenco owner, Josh Green, has been around his grandfather’s businesses for as long as he can remember. His earliest memories include being in the field with his grandfather: “He was custom thinning sugar beets in the Red River Valley,” Josh said. He also recalls attending the Big Iron Farm Show once his grandfather started the Brenco business: “I would get dropped off after school and go spend a few hours with him,” he said. Brenco is well-known for its business selling pressure washers and other types of commercial cleaning equipment. It has been in the business more than three decades. Three times it has outgrown its location because of steady growth and diversification, now selling restaurant supplies and general cleaning supplies in addition to larger equipment. The company also offers full support on equipment, including parts and service. The team has been an eager supporter of RDO Caters Taters every year, ordering Take Out lunches for all to enjoy. Because of their familiarity with both RDO Equipment Co. and RDO Caters Taters, Brenco had been looking for a way to get more involved with the event, beyond being a guest. This year, in addition to being a sponsor, Brenco is providing the to-go containers and cutlery for all Take Out orders. Take Out is a key component of the event and it is also the one that the Brenco team itself has enjoyed over the years. But Take Out has an even deeper meaning for Brenco. Last year, the importance of supporting to-go orders and the restaurant industry took on a new meaning for the company and inspired a similar outreach of support as what it is doing for RDO Caters Taters. Creating an Annual Tradition One of the industries hit hardest by COVID-19 was the restaurant industry. Forced to close their dining rooms, restaurants turned to take out orders as a way to stay aflot and still serve customers. “The to-go containers and cutlery add expense for the restaurant that they don’t pass on to the customer,” Josh explained. Wanting to do their part to give back, Josh and his team created an effort to support the industry during one of its busiest times of year: Thanksgiving. The team donated containers and cutlery to several local restaurants in the community. The effort began as a way to show added support to important customers during their most challenging year. The response was so positive that Brenco plans to make it an annual effort. Continuing an Annual Tradition Another effort Brenco is continuing this year is its support of RDO Caters Taters. While this is its first year as a sponsor, it will not be the last. Giving back is just the type of mood-boosting activity everyone could use right now. Another activity that can help with depression? Eating! Well, not exactly but eating nutrient-rich foods and good carbohydrates, like potatoes, are linked to a better mood. Think about how many feel-good moments in life occur while enjoying a meal. At RDO Caters Taters, a potato lunch packs a two-for-one, with both a good meal and the feel-good of giving back.
