Supporter Spotlight – Wanzek Construction
2020 has been a year of change, and like so much else, RDO Caters Taters has had to adapt. After spending months evaluating options, RDO team members and leadership ultimately decided not to host an RDO Caters Taters event this year. Even though this year we won’t have any delicious “pound”-tatoes piled high with toppings (not to mention all the other great parts of the event), the tradition of community support at the core of RDO Caters Taters for more than 20 years remains unchanged. This fall, we are still supporting a deserving organization, Valley Senior Services, and have been honored to have past RDO Caters Taters supporters join the cause in providing support, as well. One of those supporters is Wanzek Construction. Wanzek Construction is a general contractor serving industries including power, renewable energy, oil and gas, and agriculture. The company takes a client-focused approach to achieving its vision of being the best and delivering excellence. One result of this is a high priority on building long-term relationships, something that regularly extends beyond the job. A foundational part of Marketing Manager Kaylyn Woxland’s role is telling the Wanzek story by conveying the company’s internal values to outside audiences. And in Wanzek’s case, conveying those values means waking the walk. “The vast majority of our employees work on jobsites spread across the country, often in fairly small towns, and at every jobsite, there is an element of community impact,” Kaylyn said. From volunteering at fire stations to donating backpacks to schools and conducting food drives, Wanzek crews are granted autonomy to help the communities in which they work in ways they deem necessary. And with crews spending anywhere from three months to a year on jobs, finding ways to help is often not a difficult determination. “Our crews get to know the locals well,” Kaylyn said. “They’re staying in town, getting lunch at the café throughout the week. They start to develop relationships with the people who call the area home and learn what the community needs.” With their corporate headquarters in Fargo, Wanzek team members are familiar with RDO Caters Taters and harbor that same sense of how they can impact the community. Despite the trials of 2020, Wanzek has had a strong year and has made a point to pay that good fortune forward as much as possible. They set intentionally lofty goals for their annual United Way campaign, which resulted in its highest donation total ever. Kaylyn said this and other causes, like RDO Caters Taters, are important to back now so they can continue doing good for a long time to come. “We made a goal to continue to make the same, if not a bigger impact than in normal years. We want to support these efforts and keep things going when times get back to normal.” --- Valley Senior Services serves thousands of seniors in our community each year, and they have felt the impact of COVID-19 in several ways – but the most pressing has been a significant increase in requests for their services. For years, the partnership and generosity of individuals and businesses has played a role in helping us raise nearly $770,000 for area non-profit organizations, and this year, there’s nothing stopping that tradition of community support.
