When RDO Caters Taters for Charity held its first event in 2000, the team served about 750 guests. Fast forward to now, the event has served 40,000 potatoes and raised nearly $675,000 for local charities heading into its 20th-anniversary year. In addition to the Fargo-Moorhead community continuing to show up and support the event, RDO Caters Taters has grown in dollars raised thanks to the generous companies that sponsor the event year after year. One of these companies is Topcon. Spotlight on Topcon As one of RDO Equipment Co.’s key manufacturing partners, Topcon has been supporting RDO Caters Taters for several years. In a nutshell, Topcon’s positioning group makes productivity enhancement tools for construction and agriculture equipment. The company is headquartered in the San Francisco Bay Area, known for everything from cable cars to technology companies – so what could it have in common with a charitable potato luncheon in Fargo? Plenty! Murray Lodge, Senior Vice President and General Manager of Construction, shares three unique ways Topcon and the RDO teams align. 1. Shared Responsibility R.D. Offutt Company is comprised of farms and food processing plants, equipment dealerships and real estate development. Summed up, it’s fair to say the company is focused on and dedicated to building and feeding the world. So, too is Topcon. “Our two biggest industries we serve are construction and agriculture,” Murray explained. “As the population grows, we need to build more roads, hospitals, sewer systems, and buildings, on top of producing more food. Resources aren’t increasing so we need to be more productive and efficient with what we have. That’s what Topcon technology is all about.” 2. Producing Potatoes Every pound-tato, before it ends up at RDO Caters Taters, first must be planted, cared for, and harvested. Everyone knows that. But what most may not know is that Topcon provides GPS technology potato farmers use to have a more efficient, productive growing season. “Farmers today know they can’t just plant, care, and harvest – then hope for a good crop,” Murray said. “They need to have awareness and understanding of everything, from how much fertilizer they’re using to soil variations across a single field. The agronomic data that our technology delivers gives farmers insight into all key areas so they can make better decisions and produce better yields – for some, that could mean producing more pound-tatoes!” 3. Giving Back Perhaps the biggest common thread Topcon and RDO Caters Taters share is a passion for giving back to the community. From the community-favorite 100th-annual Rodeo in Livermore to the Taylor Family Foundation, an organization that hosts a summer camp for children with disabilities, Topcon supports its community in several ways. “I think our employees are really proud to work for a company that gives back so generously in the community,” Murray said. We all take great pride in the work we do as a company but, more than that, we take great pride in the work we do for others.” Learn more about and the products it offers for paving, grading, excavating, and more by visiting the website. ---------- Join us for RDO Caters Taters for Charity, Tuesday, November 26 from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the Delta Hotels by Marriott Fargo. 100% of proceeds benefit PATH ND.
