In 2000, R.D. Offutt Company Leadership challenged its team members to hold an event that would give back to the community. That spark created RDO Caters Taters, an event that now, 20 years later, still has a fire burning to raise money for local charities. As the event has grown, so too have the dollars donated by generous sponsors. This year, a new sponsorship level was added to recognize the companies contributing at the highest level: the Platinum Potato. Get to know one of the first Platinum Potato sponsors, Signs 4 Work. Spotlight on Signs 4 Work Like RDO Caters Taters, Signs 4 Work began with an idea and an entrepreneurial spirit. And that’s not the only thing these two have in common. Signs 4 Work founder and team member, Justin Nelson, talks about starting small, charitable connections, and creating a fun work environment where team members love what they do. 1. Basic Beginnings When it began, RDO Caters Taters offered a dine-in lunch with two potato toppings. Today, the event has grown to include a Take Out option, a raffle, door prizes, a fun photo booth, and, of course, numerous ways to top a tater. Justin launched Signs 4 Work in 2014, starting out making dog collars, then grew the company into a full-fledged provider of everything from building signage and vehicle graphics to tradeshow booths and awards. “We now have nine team members and a great shop/office in West Fargo,” Justin said. He adds that the company’s latest expansion is called Event Badger, creating unique and fun badges for conferences and other events – including this year’s TEDxFargo. 2. Partnerships Matter RDO Caters Taters enjoys working with a new charity every year, not only to share the wealth of the community’s generosity, but to make more connections with needs and causes in the Fargo-Moorhead area. This year, committee member Angie Pogue shared a special connection to this year’s charity, PATH. Find and read her story on the blog. Similarly, Signs 4 Work already had a connection to PATH and had supported it in the past. The team was pleased to learn that PATH would be receiving 100% of this year’s event proceeds. But, according to Justin, the team was eager to support the event, based on another close partnership – with RDO Equipment Co. “RDO has been one of our key customers that has helped us grow our business,” he explained. “We really appreciate our partnership with RDO – plus, we just love the event and attending every year!” 3. All About Fun As much as the RDO Caters Taters committee is dedicated to raising money and awareness for local charities, the group is just as devoted to making the event a fun experience for all who participate. Signs 4 Work shares a similar work hard/play hard philosophy. While the team is committed to goals and working hard to serve customers, Justin believes incorporating fun into the culture makes the work more enjoyable for all team members and is why the days fly by. He summed up their philosophy in a simple way: “We have fun and get things done!” Learn more about Platinum Potato sponsor, Signs 4 Work and the custom signage, decals, and other unique products it offers. ---------- Join us for RDO Caters Taters for Charity, Tuesday, November 26 from 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. at the Delta Hotels by Marriott Fargo. 100% of proceeds benefit PATH.
